Public Protection

The Ontario College of Teachers regulates teaching in the public interest. Teachers in Ontario’s publicly-funded elementary and secondary schools must be members in good standing with the College. The College protects the public by:

• establishing ethical standards and standards of practice for the teaching profession.
• accrediting teacher education programs and courses.
• investigating and hearing complaints against teachers.
• issuing teaching certificates and, in some cases, suspending or revoking them.
