The Discipline Committee ordered that the teaching certificate of Thai Duong Dennis Duong be revoked for sexually abusing two students. In criminal proceedings, Duong pleaded guilty to, and was convicted of, one count of sexual interference and one count of sexual exploitation.
This matter was disposed of without a hearing based on Duong’s prior criminal conviction and/or finding of guilt accordance with subsection 30.2(8) of the Ontario College of Teachers Act, 1996 and rule 9.03 of the Rules of Procedure of the Discipline Committee and of the Fitness to Practise Committee.
Duong was certified to teach in January 2019.
The Discipline Committee panel ordered that Duong’s Certificate of Qualification and Registration be revoked and that he receive a reprimand.
In their written decision, the panel stated: “Members of the teaching profession are responsible for the safety and well-being of students. Members who have been found guilty of a criminal sexual offence involving students cannot be trusted with the responsibility of ensuring students’ safety and well-being.”
