Decision Summary - Developed by College staff

The Discipline Committee ordered that the teaching certificate of Taher Saifuddin be revoked for sexual misconduct and for abusing a student in his class.

During part of the time in question, Saifuddin was employed as a teacher at a private school in Toronto.

Saifuddin, who was certified to teach in January 2015, attended the hearing on January 30-31, 2024, April 17, 2024, and July 30, 2025, and was self-represented.

Saifuddin’s misconduct included:

  • Sending videos of sexual nature over social media to the student.
  • Making inappropriate comments to the student, such as asking him about his sex life and asking him to see photographs of his girlfriend.
  • Sending numerous inappropriate messages to the student, including messages that contained sexual innuendo or were sexually suggestive.

Saifuddin’s behaviour culminated in sexually touching the student on his hand, inner thigh and penis.

The Discipline Committee panel found Saifuddin guilty of professional misconduct and ordered that his Certificate of Qualification and Registration be revoked and that he receive a reprimand.

In its written decision on penalty, the panel stated, “The penalty order satisfies the penalty objective of general deterrence as the order denounces [Saifuddin]’s conduct and makes it clear that this type of conduct will not be tolerated.”
