The Discipline Committee ordered that the teaching certificate of Marianna Erika Riossi be revoked for sexually abusing two students (Student 1 and Student 2). Following criminal proceedings, Riossi pled guilty to, and was convicted of, one count of sexual exploitation in relation to Student 1 and one count of sexual interference in relation to Student 2.
Riossi was certified to teach in July 2012.
This matter was disposed of without a hearing based on Riossi’s prior criminal conviction and/or finding of guilt, in accordance with subsection 30.2(8) of the Ontario College of Teachers Act, 1996 and rule 9.03 of the Rules of Procedure of the Discipline Committee and of the Fitness to Practise Committee. The Discipline Committee panel ordered that Riossi’s Certificate of Qualification and Registration be revoked and that she receive a reprimand.
In their written decision, the panel stated, “The Panel denounces [Riossi]’s misconduct in the strongest terms.”
