The Discipline Committee ordered that the teaching certificate of Steven Mario Giommi be revoked for engaging in a prohibited act involving child pornography. In criminal proceedings, Giommi pleaded guilty to and was convicted of one count of possession of child pornography.
This matter was disposed of without a hearing based on Giommi’s prior criminal conviction and/or finding of guilt accordance with subsection 30.2(8) of the Ontario College of Teachers Act, 1996 and rule 9.03 of the Rules of Procedure of the Discipline Committee and of the Fitness to Practise Committee.
Giommi was certified to teach in February 2005.
The Discipline Committee panel ordered that Giommi’s Certificate of Qualification and Registration be revoked. He was also directed to receive a reprimand. In their written decision, the panel stated, “[Giommi]’s conviction demonstrates that he is not suited to hold the privileged position of a teacher.”
