The Discipline Committee ordered Ivan Evaton Dublin to be reprimanded for making comments of an inappropriate and sexist nature toward students, including saying, “I don’t want these kids in my class,” “girls belong in the kitchen,” and “a man should not be defeated by a girl.”
During the time of the events addressed in this hearing, Dublin was employed as a teacher by the Toronto District School Board.
Dublin, who was certified to teach in 2001, did not attend the hearing on March 31, 2025, and did not have legal representation.
Dublin has a prior conduct history with the College.
Following an earlier report about Dublin’s conduct toward students, an Investigation Committee panel issued advice to Dublin “to ensure that all student interactions are appropriate and not subject to misinterpretation.”
In response to another report regarding Dublin’s “numerous inappropriate, disparaging and demeaning comments” toward students, an Investigation Committee panel issued a caution to Dublin, reminding him “to ensure that [his] conduct and comments are at all times appropriate, respectful and consistent with the standards of the teaching profession.”
The Discipline Committee panel found Dublin guilty of professional misconduct and ordered him to receive a reprimand. In finding a reprimand to be a reasonable penalty, the panel noted that Dublin had also resigned as a member of the College and undertaken never to seek reinstatement and to never again work in any teaching position in Ontario or another position requiring a Certificate of Qualification and Registration.
In their written decision, the Discipline Committee panel stated, “Teachers hold a position of trust and authority and are expected to model respectful behaviour. It is verbally abusive for members to make sexist comments to a class.”
