Decision Summary - Developed by College staff

The Discipline Committee ordered that the teaching certificate of Roger Lloyd Hilderley be revoked for drugging and sexually assaulting a former student. The conduct occurred in 2002, after Hilderley reconnected with the former student many years after she had graduated and become an adult.

At the time of the events in question, Hilderley was a retired teacher, who had previously been employed as a vice principal by the Avon Maitland District School Board.

Hilderley, who was certified to teach in June 1966, did not attend the hearing on March 2, 2026, but had legal representation.

Hilderley’s misconduct included inviting the former student to his home, putting a drug in her coffee without her knowledge, and sexually assaulting her while she was in a vulnerable physical state.

The Discipline Committee panel found Hilderley guilty of professional misconduct and ordered that his Certificate of Qualification and Registration be revoked. He was also directed to receive a reprimand.

In their written decision, the panel stated that it is “clearly disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional for a teacher to engage in the sexual assault of any person.”
