2023 Annual Meeting of Members

College members, applicants, stakeholders, and members of the public are invited to attend the Ontario College of Teachers’ 2023 Virtual Annual Meeting of Members on Tuesday, October 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

College leadership will provide attendees with updates on the College’s operations, as well as Council and Committee activities.

The meeting will be hosted on Zoom with simultaneous French and English interpretation and optional closed captioning. The meeting link will be sent to registrants one week prior to the meeting.

The meeting will conclude with a question–and–answer session. Questions can be asked in advance at the time of registration.

Profile: Council member Jonathan Davey

Jonathan is vice-president of Indigenous Financial Services for Scotiabank where he leads a national strategy of community-based partnerships based on wealth management, commercial, retail, and small business banking.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, he served as special adviser and counsel for the Aboriginal Affairs Portfolio in the Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office in Canada’s Department of Justice. He was also the Crown counsel for the Aboriginal Law Division in the department’s Ontario Regional Office.

Jonathan serves on the College’s Council and the Audit and Finance Subcommittee.

We are looking for members of the public and Ontario Certified Teachers to make a difference in education and student well-being by helping to govern the teaching profession.

There are positions available in the different arms of governance, including Council, Committees and Rosters.

Governance members will be selected based on position-specified and eligibility criteria and reflective of diverse geographic, linguistic, and Indigenous perspectives of Ontario.

Suspension, reprimand, conditions – A Discipline Committee panel suspended the teaching certificate of Robert Anton Betz for engaging in a personal relationship with an undergraduate student he was coaching and subjecting her to unwanted, aggressive sexual acts. Read more.

Suspension, reprimand, conditions, costs – A Discipline Committee panel suspended the teaching certificate of Nasaire Ndoume Angoune for making inappropriate comments to students, failing to supervise students in his care properly and playing two video clips in class that had no pedagogical value, while ignoring students’ protests that they found the videos inappropriate. Suspension, reprimand, conditions – A Discipline Committee panel suspended the teaching certificate of Thomas Steven Loth for failing to adequately teach students in his transportation technology classes and entering into a conflict of interest by using the school facilities and property to perform work for an external automotive service business. Revocation, reprimand – A Discipline Committee panel revoked the teaching certificate of John William Alexander Bain for engaging in sexual contact with students and non-consensual sexual contact with recent, adolescent graduates of Bain’s school. Read more.

Paul Joseph Paterson, #426411
Revocation, reprimand, costs – A Discipline Committee panel revoked the teaching certificate of Paul Joseph Paterson for engaging in boundary violations with numerous students which included directing students to strip down to their underwear and then patting them down, searching for drugs.
