Help govern the profession

We are looking for members of the public and Ontario Certified Teachers to make a difference in education and student well-being by helping to govern the teaching profession.

There are roles available on different arms of governance, including Council, Committees and Rosters.

Governance members will be selected based on specified selection and eligibility criteria needed to do the job and reflective of diverse geographic, linguistic, and Indigenous perspectives of Ontario.

Profile: Council member Douglas Gosse, OCT

Douglas Gosse is a tenured professor and associate dean at the Faculty of Education and Professional Studies, Nipissing University.

With more than two decades of education experience, he started his teaching career as a supply classroom teacher before advancing through various roles as an instructor and assistant professor.

He serves on the College’s Council and on the Selection and Nominating Subcommittee.

He is passionate about Francophone literature, anthropology, social justice, and equity.

Meet Shawn Dhaliwal, Grace Rajballie, Kaitlyn Heasman and Josée Lamoureux.

Each received $1,500 toward their program of initial teacher education by being exemplary role models to their peers and demonstrating consistent dedication to the highest ideals of teaching.

The Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship program recognizes and supports excellence in teacher education by providing annual scholarships to help fund the education of future teachers.

Applications are accepted until August 31, 2023.

Discipline Committee panels conduct public hearings into allegations of professional misconduct and/or incompetence. Full panel decisions are posted to the member’s public register profile.

Reprimand, undertaking – A Discipline Committee panel directed Julie Mazerolle to receive a reprimand for, among other things, shouting at or being impatient and brusque with students. Read more.

Revocation, reprimand – A Discipline Committee panel revoked the teaching certificate of Liam Paul Phipps for sexually abusing a student. He did so despite the Family and Children Services of Waterloo addressing concerns with him about ensuring appropriate boundaries with the student. Read more.

Revocation, reprimand – A Discipline Committee panel revoked the teaching certificate of James Robert Thompson for accessing child pornography. Read more.

Reprimand, conditions – A Discipline Committee panel ordered Gregory Scott McMaster to be reprimanded for engaging in a pattern of irresponsible behaviour in failing to fulfill his duties as a teacher committed to students’ learning. Read more.

Suspension, reprimand, undertaking to resign – A Discipline Committee panel suspended the teaching certificate of Jesse Spencer Silver for engaging in a pattern of improper behaviour in fostering personal relationships with multiple students as well as touching them inappropriately. Read more.

Suspension, reprimand, conditions – A Discipline Committee panel suspended the teaching certificate of Geoffrey Matthew Muldoon for making inappropriate physical contact with five students. Read more.
