New Council, committee and roster members

Meet the professionals who have been appointed to our governing Council, adjudicative rosters and the following committees:

  • Accreditation
  • Accreditation Appeals
  • Discipline
  • Fitness to Practise
  • Investigation
  • Registration Appeals
  • Standards of Practice and Education

Their terms of office began on January 1, 2022, with a series of orientation and training sessions to follow. Authority under the Act will transfer from the Transition Supervisory Officer to Council and committees on February 1, 2022.

New legislation ensures only Ontario Certified Teachers can use the OCT designation

New legislation recognizes teacher professionalism by entrenching the professional designation "Ontario Certified Teacher" (OCT) in law.

Putting the OCT professional designation into the College’s Act confirms that only those who meet the high standards of the profession and maintain their license in good standing can use the OCT designation and teach in Ontario’s publicly funded school system.

Mandatory sexual abuse prevention program launched on January 3

On January 3, 2022, the Ontario College of Teachers launched a mandatory sexual abuse prevention program for Ontario Certified Teachers (OCTs) and applicants to the College. The program is being offered online at no cost and will take approximately three hours to complete. It can be taken over multiple sessions.

A link to the program has been available in the Members’ Area of the College website since January 3, 2022.

Applicants to the College can read more to see if you are required to complete the program to be eligible for certification.

Math Proficiency Test no longer a certification requirement

As a result of a recent decision of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice – Divisional Court, the Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) is no longer a certification requirement.

The Divisional Court’s decision has been appealed by the Government of Ontario. The College will follow the proceedings and comply with any future court orders as well.

Don't forget to pay your 2022 membership fee

If your membership fee isn't deducted through payroll, please pay the membership fee directly to the College. You can pay with credit or debit through your bank, via E-Services on the OCT membership app or oct.ca, or by cheque. The deadline is April 15, 2022.
